There’s been a lot of talk in the papers about the violent behavior of U.S. soldiers in Iraq. More and more reports emerge, accounts of soldiers raping and killing Iraqi civilians. Steven D. Green, pictured, is the face authorities want us to put behind the killings. It’s hard to feel anything but sorry for ex-private Green; the military and the administration evidently think they can pin the ultra-violence they promote, plan, and pay for (with tax dollars) on a skinny looking kid in clam-diggers, flip-flops, and a Johnny Cash t-shirt. This is not to say that he is innocent of the charges; but the military teaches kids to kill. And all the kids in Iraq are there fighting the war for a bunch of greedy men whose faces better portray the horrible violence perpetrated against the Iraqi people in all of our names.
