To Despotism Descended

by o on October 20, 2007

To despotism descended
the sun we fear will never rise again
our heavy hearts make us silent
our mouths dry as prayers
to a God who cannot listen
with nonexistent ears.
There is nowhere
where perfidy has not already built
its dark prison. For this age
is the great unification
those who’ve learned to live
to drink the desert’s milk
far from civilization’s deceit
are interrupted now by its engines
in the once holy silence of the night.
It is when there is nothing left
things begin to grow again
fruit ripens in darkness
your energy in the death of sleep.
When nothing is left
but to say aloud,  I made this
it is mine to make better;
I no longer run
no longer seek shelter in the land
of my Abraham. Our family
is here now in every corner
of the Earth.
